National Night Out, Free Outdoor Concert This Week

Also, young performers stage musical comedy with twists on fairy tales.

'Into the Woods Junior': The Madison Recreation Department and Playwrights Theatre present "Into the Woods Junior"—a young performer’s version of the famous Broadway musical by Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine that twists familiar fairy tales into a new story. Shows are 7:30 p.m. Thursday and Friday, and 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Madison High School. For more information see the event listing.

National Night Out: National Night Out is scheduled for Tuesday, when the Madison Police Department continues its involvement in the national crime prevention and community-building program by visiting block parties around the borough. Officers from Madison and other law enforcement agencies will mingle with residents to answer questions, share information and promote partnerships between police and the community.

Music Festival: Lunchtime keyboard recitals and a cabaret-style performance of a new musical will be performed at Grace Church in Madison this week as part of an annual Summer Music Festival sponsored by the Baroque Orchestra of New Jersey.

Madison Farmers Market: The farmers' market is open from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday on Green Village Road off Main Street.

Downtown Concert: Listen to local band Rosewood from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday on the lawn of the Museum of Early Trades & Crafts as part of the free Downtown Concert Series. Rosewood's song choices include pop, rock, jazz, classical, blues, spiritual and original numbers, reflecting the members' diverse musical roots.

Last Lectures: The 29th Summer Seminar Series at the Madison Public Library wraps up with the last two lectures this week: one at 2 p.m. Monday discussing the New Jersey’s historic contributions to American cinema and television, and another at 10:30 a.m. Thursday on "Texting, Tweeting and Talking: Communication in a New Age." The lectures are free and open to the public.
