National Night Out Returning to Madison

Madison police are seeking 'block party captains' for crime prevention and community building program in August.

The Madison Police Department is continuing its involvement in the national crime prevention program National Night Out and wants to hear from residents who are interested in hosting block parties the evening of the event, Detective Kenneth Shannon said Tuesday.

On Aug. 6, officers from the Madison Police Department and other law enforcement agencies will visit neighborhoods with giveaways for kids as a way to promote partnerships between police and the community.

"We are looking for a few neighborhoods to host a block party where the police will come out to visit and join in the festivities interacting with the residents," Shannon said. "The police will have giveaway prizes for the kids and will be available to speak with residents about local crime prevention concerns as well as recent crime trends."
