Newark Man Accused of Strangling Madison Resident

Jimmy Emporellis was found dead in his car last week in Newark.

A Newark man has been charged with the strangulation death of a Madison resident last month, the Essex County Prosecutor's Office said.

Michael Wilkins, 58, was arrested Thursday and charged with murder in the death of Jimmy Emporellis.

Emporellis, 34, who had been reported missing, was found dead in the rear of his car on South 10th Street in Newark on Feb. 24, the prosecutor's office said. An autopsy revealed Emporellis had been strangled, the prosecutor's office said.

Wilkins has been remanded to the Essex County Correctional Facility in lieu of $500,000 bail.
