Madison Man Targeted in Newark Homicide

Authorities say Jimmy Emporellis was likely targeted in Monday morning incident.

A 34-year-old Madison man was killed Monday morning in what was likely a targeted incident in Newark, the Essex County Prosecutor's Office said.

Jimmy Emporellis was found unresponsive in a car parked in the 600 block of South 10th Street shortly before 10 a.m. Monday, the prosecutor's office said Tuesday evening.

Emporellis was pronounced dead at the scene at 10:34 a.m. Monday.

"The investigation is active and ongoing but it does not appear to be a random crime," according to the prosecutor's office statement.

No further information regarding the incident was immediately available.
