Madison Man, 38, Killed Crossing Highway in Maryland

Stephen Bird died after being struck by a vehicle on Route 50.

A 38-year-old Madison man was struck and killed by a vehicle Sunday morning as he crossed a highway in Maryland, according to news reports.

Stephen Bird was hit by a Jeep Wrangler shortly before 2:30 a.m. on Route 50 near Route 589, delmarvanow.com reported, citing Maryland State Police.

The driver, 22-year-old Aaron Craft of Hampstead, Md., and his passenger, 26-year-old Travis Taylor of Ocean City, were returning home from Ocean Downs Casino when the accident occurred, and they stopped to see what happened, according to the website.

No charges are pending against the driver, and alcohol was not a factor, the report said.
