Detours Affect Routes to Madison Schools

Limited access to Madison High, Central Avenue schools because of work on Ridgedale Avenue.

A behind-schedule water main construction project on Ridgedale Avenue has led to detours on routes to Madison High School and the Central Avenue School on the first day of classes Friday.

The detours are expected to be in place for the month of September, Madison police said.

Ridgedale Avenue in Madison between Burnet Road and Park Avenue will be closed and only accessible to local traffic, according to borough police. Construction also is affecting traffic on Ridgedale Avenue in Florham Park.

Guidance from police is below.

High School Parents/Students:

Expect detours in the area. Travel to the High School by using CENTRAL AVENUE OR BURNET ROAD. The area of the High School will not be occupied by the water main contractor after the opening of school, however the County of Morris will also be performing a paving project on Ridgedale Avenue (north of Central Avenue).

Central Avenue School Parents:

Expect detours in the area. Access to Walnut Street will be severely limited. Greenwood Avenue or Brittin Street are the preferred drop-off and pickup locations for the duration of the Ridgedale Avenue Water Main project. It is encouraged that students walk or ride a bicycle to school where possible. A police officer will be on-site during morning receiving hours and afternoon discharge hours at those preferred locations to assist crossing guards with any traffic issues. The water main construction contractor anticipates completion by the end of September.
