Wanted: Ideas to Improve Train Station Access

If you have ideas on how to improve access to the , the Morris County Division of Transportation wants to hear from you.

An open house for residents to share their thoughts on how to improve transit access along the Route 124 corridor for drivers, bicyclists and pedestrians is scheduled for 4 to 7 p.m. next Thursday, March 29, at the .

Residents can meet with the project team, identify difficulties getting to or from the stations and suggest any solutions.

The NJ 124 Corridor Transit Access Improvement Study is being conducted to assess and recommend station access improvements to the Chatham, Madison, and Convent Station NJ Transit commuter rail stations, which are served by the NJ Transit Morris & Essex Rail Line.

The project includes NJ 124 through Chatham, Madison and Morris Township. Chatham Township, Florham Park and Harding also are involved in the project.

Towns have said rail access is restricted due to limited parking and congested roads, which is why a new comprehensive analysis with recent data is being used to identify current and future needs, and to produce a plan to meet those needs, according to a page about the project on the division website.

The study is funded through the North Jersey Transportation Planning Authority’s Subregional Studies Program and managed by the Morris County Division of Transportation. VHB is the project consultant. The project began in January. It is expected to be completed in March 2013.
