Teen Charged With Underage Alcohol Possession

The Madison Police Department blotter finds a teen facing multiple alcohol charges while a warrant ensnares another driver. On Feb. 2 at 3:13 a.m., Ptl. Paul Papamarkos arrested 19-year-old Kaminiben Joshi of Galloway, N.J. He charged her with underage possession of alcohol and having an open container of alcohol in a motor vehicle. Papamarkos while on patrol had stopped to check on Kaminiben’s vehicle that was parked on Madison Avenue with its flashers on. He discovered she was allegedly in possession of alcohol. She was taken to headquarters for processing and released pending a mandatory court appearance. On Feb. 4 at 8:36 p.m., Ptl. Matthew Mirabella arrested 52-year-old Niranjan Saravanapavan of Summit on the strength of a $114 …

When it comes to volunteering in service to his hometown, Madison resident Robert Landrigan boasts a full resume. While working as a corporate real estate and internal compliance executive at JPMorgan Chase, Landrigan also served as president of the Madison Volunteer Ambulance Corps, Madison Office of Emergency Management Coordinator, Board of Health member and Auxiliary Police Officer. In November he was elected to his first term as a member of the Borough Council But it is in his work as a first responder that the father of three found his volunteer roots, and at the same time honored a family history by giving back to the community. Alleged Domestic Violence on Weekly Madison Police Blotter

Charges related to an outstanding warrant, underage alcohol purchase, and alleged domestic violence are among the incidents appearing on the Madison police blotter this week. On July 14 at 2:19 p.m., Det. John Miscia arrested Tamara Lee of Cranford on the strength of a $250 traffic warrant issued by Millburn Municipal Court. Miscia initially stopped Lee on Main Street for an expired vehicle registration. A computer check determined there was an outstanding warrant for her. She was taken to headquarters for processing and released. On July 12 at approximately 9 p.m., Ptl. Matthew Mirabella arrested 54-year-old Timothy Keating of Madison and charged him with simple assault. Mirabella was called to Keating’s apartment by the latter’s female …

UPDATE: Cat Rescued From Wayne Boulevard Blaze

Officials say no one was injured in the fire.

An investigation is under way into the cause of a fire that damaged a home at 29 Wayne Boulevard late Friday afternoon. No one was injured in the blaze, but a cat needed to be rescued by firefighters. A total of 35 firefighters fought the fire, from the Madison Fire Department and from Chatham, Chatham Township, Morris Township, Florham Park and Cedar Knolls. The Madison Police Department and Volunteer Ambulance Corps also assisted at the scene, said Fire Chief Louis DeRosa. "Firefighters were met with a well-involved fire when they arrived," said DeRosa. "It damaged a large portion of the house, and the house will not be able to be occupied for some time." DeRosa said firefighters found the cat unconscious in the basement furnace room. …

Police: Man With More Than $1K in Outstanding Warrants Found Drunk Outside Train Station

A 23-year-old Palisades Park man, who had more than $1,000 worth of outstanding warrants, was arrested Sunday after he was allegedly found drunk outside the Madison Train Station, police said Tuesday. Madison Police Department Ptl. Luis Goncalves arrested Alex Segura-Tamayo on the strength of criminal and traffic warrants issued by Kearny Municipal Court for $100 and Hackensack Municipal Court for $1,065, police said. Gonclaves was conducting a nightly check at the Madison Train Station and discovered Segura-Tamayo on the stairway allegedly intoxicated Sunday at about 2:20 a.m., police said. The officer ran a computer check on Segura-Tamayo's license and was alerted that there were active arrest warrants. Segura-Tamayo was taken to …

St. Vincent School Raises Money for Ambulance Corps

73 schools participated in Coins for Corps.

Bob Landrigan, President of the Madison Volunteer Ambulance Corps, recently presented a framed “Thank You Certificate” with a class photo to Amy Nauta,  teacher of the 5B class at St. Vincent Martyr School in Madison. Nauta’s class made the largest contribution of the 73 elementary school classes which participated in the just completed “Coins for the Corps” fundraiser. The Madison schools included Central Avenue Elementary, Kings Road Elementary, Torey J. Sabatini Elementary, and St. Vincent Martyr. “It has been exciting to see, during these past three weeks, the enthusiasm shown by each of participating school’s teachers and students," said Landrigan. UPDATED: Parolee Wanted in Texas Arrested Going Door-to-Door by Boro Police

Police alerted by Neighborhood Watch.

A Dallas man wanted for a parole violation in Texas was arrested by Madison police last week. On June 8 at 8:26 a.m., Det. Lt. Jerry Mantone and Ptl. Matt Mirabella arrested John Kession, 46, and Ivan Hamilton, 43, of Dallas, Texas. They were charged with soliciting without a permit. Mantone responded to Grove Street after receiving a call from a National Night Out/Neighborhood Watch citizen, who reported that there was a suspicious person going door-to-door. The pair were allegedly soliciting for a company out of California inquiring about residents hosting international students for the summer, said Police Information Officer Lt. Darren Dachisen. Madison Police Dept. to Hold Open House, Shredding Event

Public invited for inside look at police operations; securely dispose of personal documents.

The Madison Police Department will be hosting an Open House on Saturday, June 4 from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. at the Public Safety Complex on Kings Road at Prospect Street.  The department in a release said that the Open House will provide an inside look into police work in Madison, including the efforts of the Department’s Alcohol and Narcotics Task Force. Attendees will also view the equipment used by the Emergency Services Unit, speak with detectives regarding crime trends in the borough, and receive tours of the facility, vehicles and more.  The Department along with the Madison Volunteer Ambulance Corps will also be co-hosting a paper shredding event during the Open House. Alcohol, Drug Charges on Blotter

Three run afoul of borough law enforcement.

Alcohol, drug and active warrant arrests are featured in the weekly report from the Madison Police Department. On May 7 at 3:07 a.m., Sgt. Peter Iossa arrested 42-year-old Linda Sullivan of Dover and charged her with driving under the influence. Iossa initially stopped Sullivan for failure to maintain a lane on Route 24. He determined that she was allegedly operating her vehicle under the influence of alcohol. Sullivan was transported to headquarters for processing and released pending a mandatory court appearance. She was also issued a summons for failure to maintain a lane.  On May 6 at 2:56 p.m., Ptl. James Cavezza arrested Evan Rubin, 23, of Madison on the strength of a $200 traffic warrant issued by Florham Park Municipal Court. …

Mighty Fine Wine Raises Ambulance Corps' Spirits

Madison Volunteer Ambulance Corps member and self-proclaimed amateur connoisseur Paul Rogers had a lot to say about wine at Saturday's benefit tasting, but it all boiled down to one tidbit. "Who is the best judge of wine?" Rogers, of Chatham, asked the crowd of about 55  Corps supporters. "You." Those who attended the event, one of two fundraisers currently run by the Corps each year, were treated to an informative presentation about wine, a guided tasting of wines at their tables, and then invited to participate in a blind taste test of five Napa Valley selections. Rogers, who joined the squad in September, came upon his knowledge of wine through interest. That and a branch of his insurance office conveniently located near the Napa Valley…
