More than 20 sales Saturday to benefit Union Beach planned.
A piano, novelties, antiques, toys and sheet music are among the items that will be on sale at more than 20 garage sales throughout Madison on Saturday—and, if you want help plotting which sales to visit, there's a map for that. A Madison townwide garage sale is planned for Saturday, April 20, and some of the money residents earn that day could help send children affected by Superstorm Sandy to summer camp. Madison has partnered with Union Beach to help the shore town recover after the storm, and the borough is asking residents who host garage sales to donate a percentage of their proceeds to send children from Union Beach to camp. Over 50 families from Union Beach have expressed interest in having their kids attend, and three YMCA camps in the area are offering a discounted rate of $650 for them, according to a borough announcement about the event. Rodney Laney, who has appeared on Comedy Central and "The Late Late Show," is appearing at an event in Madison this weekend organized by former Councilman Sam Cerciello.
A comedy show fundraiser to benefit Superstorm Sandy recovery efforts in Union Beach is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Saturday at the North Star Club, 95 North Street, Madison, former Madison Councilman Sam Cericiello has announced. Tickets are $25, which includes beer, wine and snacks and desserts. Comics include Rodney Laney of Comedy Central and "The Late Late Show," MC John Ianarone, Cerciello, who is billed on an event flier as Sammy "The Joke Man" Cerciell. Music will be performed by Pete Limone. Cerciello first saw Laney at Romanelli's in Madison. Cerciello first performed standup comedy about a month ago at the Myersville Inn in the Gillette section of Long Hill.

It may be freezing, but those attending a Hurricane Sandy relief fundraiser at St. Vincent Martyr Church in Madison on Saturday night are expected to bust out clothes reminiscent of boardwalks and beaches. Organizers have asked attendees to wear clothing from their favorite shore towns. Saturday's fundraiser is supporting relief efforts in Union Beach, a hard-hit town Madison officials have partnered with, though there are many favorite destinations along the Jersey shore that could be represented at the party. Officials from hard-hit shore town attended Madison's reorganization meeting to thank community for its Sandy relief efforts.
A Madison Junior School school student nearly had the mayor of Union Beach in tears as she spoke at the Madison governing body's reorganization meeting about a field trip she and fellow students recently took to survey damage from Superstorm Sandy in the shore town. About 60 students cleaned the beach, unloaded donated building materials and delivered a check for money they raised for relief efforts. The field trip was part of Madison's boroughwide efforts to help the shore town. Union Beach Mayor Paul J. Peer leaders and student government members traveled to borough that was hit hard by Superstorm Sandy.
More than 60 Madison Junior School students visited Union Beach on Wednesday for a field trip to help with Superstorm Sandy recovery efforts as part of Madison's boroughwide efforts to help the shore town. The school previously had run a collection drive to help Hurricane Sandy victims. And on Friday, eighth-grade peer leaders held a movie night in the auditorium and raised $1,600 for relief efforts. Wednesday's field trip gave students the opportunity to deliver the check in person. They also cleaned up sections of beach and helped unload a delivery of $15,000 worth of supplies, including lumber, that was donated by Investors Bank, Principal Nicole Sherrin said. Madison officials recently toured Union Beach, which was devastated by Superstorm Sandy, and have scheduled a public meeting for 4:30 p.m. Thursday at Hartley Dodge Memorial to discuss ways Madison can help with fundraising and volunteer efforts, the borough has announced. All residents are welcome to attend as well as representatives from scout troops, churches, civic organizations, and local employers, an announcement from the borough said. Approximately 200 homes in Union Beach were destroyed by the storm. At the informational meeting, Mayor Bob Conley and Councilman Bob Landrigan will outline goals they hope to accomplish with the initiative.
