Ambulance Corps Collecting Items for Storm Victims

Mittens, blankets and baby formula among the items sought.

The Madison Volunteer Ambulance Corps, 29 Prosepect Street, is collecting donations for Hurricane Sandy victims in New Jersey from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, according to a flier posted on RoseNet.org. Organizes said items should not be left unattended at other hours, and are only requesting items in this list: Madison Junior School also is collecting donations for storm victims.

Pig Roast & Beer Garden to Benefit Ambulance Corps

Volunteer squad's first pig roast fundraiser is fast approaching.

The Madison Volunteer Ambulance Corps is scheduled to host its first Pig Roast & Beer Garden fundraiser from 4 to 10 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 29, at its headquarters on Prospect Street. The event represents "something different" from the corps' wine tastings and should be a fun night out with a lot of good food and plenty of good beer, said Paul Rogers, the corps vice president. Menu items include roasted pig, pulled pork barbecue, barbecued chicken, corn bread, hamburgers, cheeseburgers, hot dogs, garden salad, coleslaw and watermelon. Beer, sodas and water will also be available. ID must be presented at the door to get a wristband for those attendees who wish to be served alcoholic beverages. French Wines Will Pour to Support Ambulance Corps

A taste of France is coming to Madison this weekend for a fundraiser to support the Madison Volunteer Ambulance Corps. The all-volunteer squad, which doesn't bill patients and is supported by community donations and fundraisers, is hosting "An Evening in Paris" at 7 p.m. Saturday at the Corps' headquarters, 29 Prospect Street. Billed as a night of French wines and foods, the wine tasting will feature a tricky tray and "blind taste challenge," according to an announcement for the event. The Corps has more than 50 certified emergency medical technicians who volunteer their time so the squad can respond to emergencies at a moment's notice, said Paul Rogers, corps vice president and a wine connoisseur. Worker Injured at Walgreens Construction Site

23-year-old man found bleeding and in pain was taken to Morristown Medical Center, police said.

A 23-year-old man was found bleeding and in pain on the ground at the Walgreens construction site after police responded to a report of a construction accident there Thursday morning, authorities said. The man worked at the site and it was believed he might have tripped or slipped, police said. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration responded to scene to investigate, Chief John Trevena said. Detective Ed Mitchko and Officer Carmen DeCaro responded to the site at the corner of Greenwood Avenue and Main Street at 7:32 a.m. Thursday, a Madison police news release said.
