Field Upgrades by Madison Little League Approved

Planned improvements at Dodge and Rosedale fields to be completed with donated materials and labor.

Dodge and Rosedale fields could have a new look come Opening Day on April 20. Plans to move the batting cage at Rosedale Field to a new location near the parking lot and install picnic benches in its place, and to install two new batting cages at Dodge Field and install concrete pads in the dugout areas there, were given the go-ahead by Madison's governing body on Monday night. Madison Little League President Ernie Cicconi gave a presentation on the plans, which would be completed by Madison Little League with donated materials and labor. Palawasta Clinches Juniors Division Championship

Big innings throughout series lead to title.

Palawasta Construction won the 2012 Madison Little League Juniors Division championship over O’Donnell Landscaping on June 19 at Dodge Field. Palawasta tied for the regular season race with Madison Medical and Sports Rehab, each team having lost only once, and splitting the two games they played against each other. But O’Donnell upset Medical in its semi-final game to earn the right to play Palawasta in the best-of-three-games championship series. In the championship series, Palawasta had a big inning in each game to pull away. In Game 1, Palawasta started strong with four runs in the first inning, the big hit a bases-clearing triple by Mike Bangs that plated Colby Dixon, Ben Mara and Jimmy Piechnik. Madison Little Leaguers Win Summer Classic

A team of 11 & Under boys from Madison won the Roselle Park Youth Baseball Summer Classic.

A team of 11 & Under boys from Madison Little League won the Roselle Park Youth Baseball Summer Classic on July 3. The team posted a 5-1 record and defeated Elmora, the only team to beat them during the tournament, in the championship game. Madison won the game 6-3. The team is comprised of Sam Kotkin, Peter Samori, Matt Smollen, Walter Brownlee, Luke Boylan, Ricky Lyon, Ryan Siedem, Max Cassella, Max North, Troy Edwards and Ian Magnani.

Photos: Little League Celebrates Opening Day

Players paraded down Main Street to Dodge Field for a ceremony.

Madison Little League is celebrating is 60th anniversary this year, and League President Ernie Cicconi said much of the program's success is owed to Irv Valkys, the league's longtime former treasurer. Valkys was honored during the league's Opening Day ceremony at Dodge Field on Saturday afternoon. Players, coaches and fans paraded down Main Street from St. Vincent Martyr Church to the field for speeches and the ceremonial first pitch, thrown by Valkys' son, Mike. Saturday was a big day for Madison recreation: Opening Day coincided with a ribbon cutting for the Madison Recreation Center.
