The Madison Borough Council this week formally accepted a donation of a field house that was built at the Madison Recreation Center by the Madison Athletic Foundation. The field house has a concession stand, restrooms and underground storage. Plans for the field house were approved in October of 2011 and the cost of the project was estimated to be more than $100,000. The Madison Athletic Foundation, Inc., established in 2006 to promote athletics in the borough, uses funds raised from private donations to assist with community projects. Bruce Lovenberg of the Long Valley section of Washington Township is the winner of the Madison Athletic Foundation’s first 50/50 Cash Raffle drawing, held at noon on Saturday at the Madison Recreation Complex. State Sen. Richard J. Codey pulled the winning ticket, which is worth nearly $80,000. The MAF sold tickets since January for $100 per ticket. Organizers believe the raffle is the biggest in the history of Madison community fundraising efforts. All net proceeds from the raffle will benefit the recently completed MRC synthetic turf fields project, the Madison Athletic Foundation has said.

The Madison Athletic Foundation is currently selling tickets to its first 50/50 raffle. The foundation will be selling up to 2,000 tickets at $100 per ticket with the winner receiving $100,000 if all of the tickets are sold. If all of the tickets are not sold, the winner will still win 50 percent of the total sale. The drawing will take place on April 14 at the Madison Recreation Center turf fields off Ridgedale Avenue. All net proceeds from the raffle will benefit the recently completed MRC synthetic turf fields project. I'm not a 'field-hater.' However, turf fields have been proven to be environmentally harmful. A simple google search will provide you with examples. Also, given that a republican banner displayed while walking on to the further field, it is hard to claim there is nothing fishy going on.
