Officials from hard-hit shore town attended Madison's reorganization meeting to thank community for its Sandy relief efforts.
A Madison Junior School school student nearly had the mayor of Union Beach in tears as she spoke at the Madison governing body's reorganization meeting about a field trip she and fellow students recently took to survey damage from Superstorm Sandy in the shore town. About 60 students cleaned the beach, unloaded donated building materials and delivered a check for money they raised for relief efforts. The field trip was part of Madison's boroughwide efforts to help the shore town. Union Beach Mayor Paul J. Several New Jersey museums will open their doors to Bank of America and Merill Lynch cardholders this weekend as part of the bank's "Museums On Us" initiative. The intention of the event is "to provide a cultural benefit to Bank of America cardholders and increase access to the arts across the United States," according to a press release. "The program brings new audiences and increased attention to participating organizations, which range from some of the nation’s most celebrated museums to regional gems and include art, science and history museums, as well as other cultural institutions," the press release said. 10-second blasts from Hartley Dodge Memorial bell tower to bring in the new year, police said.
A newly refurbished horn in the bell tower of Hartley Dodge Memorial was to sound at midnight to bring in 2013, Madison police announced Monday. The horn was to sound six, 10-second blasts to mark the start of the new year. Overseen by trustees, Madison's borough hall on Kings Road was donated to Madison by Geraldine Rockefeller Dodge in 1935. It has been renovated in recent years and the building was rededicated in 2010.

Susan Zellman, founding executive director of the Housing Partnership for Morris County, has announced she will be retiring in March. Zellman, who has also been a Sussex County freeholder for the past 12 years, including serving as freeholder director for the past two, has led the organization for the past 20 years in continuing its mission to provide affordable housing opportunities to residents throughout the county. The Housing Partnership helps low-income families obtain home ownership and provides education programs and advice, as well as down payment assistance, foreclosure intervention and mortgage assistance, for people in need. The Madison Rotary's Annual Christmas luncheon at the Madison Area YMCA was a lucky day for the holders of five winning 50/50 raffle tickets. There were 600 tickets sold at $100 each. Half of the proceeds ($30,000) were awarded in the following amounts: The remaining proceeds of $30,000, in addition to the proceeds from Bottle Hill Day, Taste of Madison, and Shred-It Days, will be distributed at the annual Grants and Sponsorship Luncheon in May. Over 45 local charities and non-profits such as the YMCA, the Madison Community House, InterFaith Food Pantry, and high school scholarships will receive Rotary Grants, according to a Rotary news release.

Patch users vote costumed pup as Top Dog in the region.
Wendel the Wonder Dog is not only a caped crusader. He's also a Top Dog. Wendel, an Italian Greyhound mixed-breed dog, was found as a stray with his brother, Preston, when he was four months old. The pup was named Patch's Top Dog after making it through two rounds of voting in our contest. We asked users to submit photos of their dogs on participating sites, then vote for their favorites. Wendel received 42 votes on Long Valley Patch and the most votes in our regional round on all participating sites.
