John Hoover, who ran for a Madison council seat in the last election, is resigning from the Board of Health to manage a 42-week consulting project for Arab National Bank.
John Hoover, the president of the Madison Board of Health the past two years who ran for a council seat in November, is resigning from the Board of Health because he will be living in Saudi Arabia to manage a 42-week consulting project. Hoover said in an email he would not have taken the job in Saudi Arabia if he had won the election in November. He was fully committed to the Madison campaign and, for the four or five months before the election, the campaign was all-consuming, he said. He and GOP running mate Carmen Pico lost to Democratic candidates Astri Baillie and Ben Wolkowitz. "When it was over, the question was: 'OK what are you going to do now?'" Hoover said. He said deciding to work in Saudi Arabia "feels like I have hit the re-…

GOP candidates for Madison Borough Council John Hoover and Carmen Pico issued the following news release saying they would support lowering electric rates for residents by 10 percent once lower wholesale rates kick in. Candidates Hoover and Pico believe that in these economically challenging times, residential ratepayers should be given a 10% rate reduction as soon as the lower wholesale rates kick in, and promise to support an ordinance to make that happen if elected. The past two years the Madison Borough Council has been approving wholesale electricity purchases for 2014, 2015, 2016 and 2017 that will drop the rates that the Borough of Madison pays to buy electricity by 40 – 45%. This forward thinking plan reverses the problems caused …

The following statement is from Madison GOP candidate and Board of Health President John Hoover. Keeping Municipal Taxes in Check As I walk through town and meet the people who live in Madison, the one thing that’s on everyone’s mind is the need to continue to hold property taxes in check. Our citizens do not want to pay anymore than they are paying now, and some even say that taxes are already too high, especially in light of continuing increases on the cost of living—gas, food, education, health care, etc. In my view there are three basic elements that influence the amount of taxes we pay. The kind and cost of municipal services, the efficiency and productivity of the way services are delivered, and the amount of non-tax revenue …
