Madison Girls Basketball Falls to Parsippany

The Dodgers come within a basket of the Red Hawks several times, but fall short in an away contest.

The Madison High School girls basketball team traveled to Parsippany to take on the Red Hawks Thursday night, and in a fast-paced battle that saw the teams within three points of each other several times, the Dodgers fell 51-37.    The Dodgers came out hard to take on the Red Hawks, as Sam Cicconi answered the first five Parsippany points with a steal and a driving layup. She established a quick pace that both sides were forced to maintain in the first quarter. She added a second steal and a layup, to round out the first eight minutes with four points. Madison Girls Basketball Seeded 15th In Morris County Tournament

Dodgers open with 18th-seeded Kinnelon in preliminary round Saturday.

If a tough schedule truly prepares a team for single-elimination tournament play, the Madison High School girls basketball team will be more than ready for what awaits them in the Morris County Tournament. The Dodgers (7-7) were seeded 15th out of 27 teams by the coaches at their annual seeding meeting Sunday at Hanover Park High School. Madison will host No. 18 seed Kinnelon (4-7) in a preliminary-round matchup this Saturday at 5 p.m. The winner will travel to second-seeded Chatham on Feb. 6. "We had goals before the season started," said Madison coach Steven Finkelstein. "We wanted to host a county tournament game. And then we wanted to win a county tournament game. We've got the first one down. Now we just need to follow through and win…

Madison Girls Basketball Falls to Vernon

Now 6-6, the Dodgers team find themselves at a pivotal point in their season.

The Madison High School girls basketball team hosted Vernon Tuesday night, hoping to stop its two-game skid with a big win at home. Unfortunately, the visiting Vikings rebounded down low and shot well from the foul line, the 3-point line, and just about everyplace else as they topped the Dodgers, 46-32. The first quarter was a tough one for Madison. The scrappy Vikings started picking off passes and rebounding well on offense and defense.  For the Dodgers, the first eight minutes were distinguished by offensive turnovers that gave way to Viking buckets. Fouls were converted into points, and the dodgers struggled to muster a successful drive. While several Madison girls shot from the floor, only Corey DeBiasse could get on the board, going …
