GOP candidates for Madison Borough Council John Hoover and Carmen Pico issued the following news release saying they would support lowering electric rates for residents by 10 percent once lower wholesale rates kick in. Candidates Hoover and Pico believe that in these economically challenging times, residential ratepayers should be given a 10% rate reduction as soon as the lower wholesale rates kick in, and promise to support an ordinance to make that happen if elected. The past two years the Madison Borough Council has been approving wholesale electricity purchases for 2014, 2015, 2016 and 2017 that will drop the rates that the Borough of Madison pays to buy electricity by 40 – 45%. This forward thinking plan reverses the problems caused …

The following is a news release from GOP candidates for Madison Borough Council John Hoover and Carmen Pico. The following letter is from GOP candidate for Borough Council Carmen Pico. The Madison Town Council elections are coming up November 6th. It is more important now more than ever to get out and vote. Some people that I have spoken to believe that their votes do not count. Maybe people feel that when it comes down to it, all the candidates are the same so why bother to vote. Remember not voting for the candidate you like keeps them off the council and that would be a shame. I was born and raised in Madison and I love this town. I would like to be part of Madison's future. I am honest and trustworthy. I am a multi-generational Madisonian. My family helped Madison thrive. Some of my goals are; to keep Madison's taxes in check, honor …

The following statement is from Madison GOP candidate and Board of Health President John Hoover. Keeping Municipal Taxes in Check As I walk through town and meet the people who live in Madison, the one thing that’s on everyone’s mind is the need to continue to hold property taxes in check. Our citizens do not want to pay anymore than they are paying now, and some even say that taxes are already too high, especially in light of continuing increases on the cost of living—gas, food, education, health care, etc. In my view there are three basic elements that influence the amount of taxes we pay. The kind and cost of municipal services, the efficiency and productivity of the way services are delivered, and the amount of non-tax revenue …

Carmen Pico tabbed to take Don Links' spot on ballot, joining John Hoover.
Madison Borough Councilman Don Links has stepped down from his re-election campaign for health reasons, and Carmen Pico, who waged a write-in campaign in the Republican primary, will join John Hoover on the ballot in November, the Madison Republican Committee has announced. A statement from Links about his decision references the physical challenges of his battle with ALS, and says he plans to serve the remainder of his term, which ends in December. "I have decided to withdraw as a candidate for Madison Borough Council," Links said. "When I announced my re-election candidacy earlier this year, I acknowledged the physical challenges I face with ALS, but expected they would not hamper my ability to run a rigorous campaign. But today, I feel …

Board of Health President John Hoover will join Councilman Don Links on the ballot as the Republican nominees for two three-year Borough Council seats up for vote in November, according to preliminary primary election results Tuesday night. Links was the only Republican to file for the primary by the deadline, but Hoover and then Carmen Pico subsequently declared they would be waging write-in campaigns in an effort to get on the ballot for the general election. Links and Hoover face the Democratic ticket of former Councilwoman Astri Baillie and Ben Wolkowitz, who ran uncontested for their party's nominations.
