Benz Stolen From Redmond Drive Recovered

Madison police are continuing their investigation, and encourage residents to lock their doors and report suspicious activity.

A gray 2010 Mercedes Benz that was reported stolen from Redmond Drive in Madison last week has been recovered, borough police said. Madison Detective Ed Mitchko was contacted by Rahway police about the recovered vehicle on Sunday, according to a Madison police news release. Mitchko responded to Rahway to recover the vehicle. He is continuing to investigate the theft with the Morris County Sheriff's Department criminal investigation unit. The car was stolen between midnight and 7 a.m. on March 13. Detective Lt. Jerry Mantone said residents should lock their vehicles and report suspicious noises, vehicles and people to the Madison Police Department at 973-593-3000 or 911.

Resident's Phone Call Leads to Vehicle Theft Arrests

Three men arrested, also charged with burglary and theft from 14 borough vehicles.

Three men have been charged with motor vehicle, as well as burglary and theft from 14 Madison vehicles, according to the Madison Police Department. Vaughanet Torrence, 29, and Ralph Harris, 27, both of Newark, as well as Louis Walker, 18, address unknown, were arrested by Patrolman Chad Rybka and Detective Ken Shannon on Feb. 14 at about 7:02 a.m. The men were charged with two counts of theft of a motor vehicle, as well as burglary and theft from 14 vehicles within the borough. A citizen who police say is a long time participant in National Night Out, allegedly observed a suspicious male in his neighbor’s driveway attempting to steal their car. I just want to say Great Job by the Madison police! And thank you to the resident who was actually vigilant enough to get a good description of the suspects. I have been informed that the suspects in this case are all members of the Bloods gang. It's a crazy society we live in and people need to start being more aware of what's going on. Police Charge Nutley Woman With DUI After Main St. Stop

The following arrest information was supplied by the Madison Police Department. It does not indicate convictions.

A drunk-driving charge and stolen vehicle appear on this week's blotter from the Madison Police Department. Ptl. Chad Rybka on Jan. 22 at 11:30 p.m. arrested 50-year-old Michelle Rasp of Nutley and charged her with driving under the influence. Rybka initially stopped Rasp for crossing a double yellow line on Main Street near Green Village Road. He determined that she was allegedly operating her vehicle under the influence of alcohol. Rasp was taken to headquarters for processing and released to a family member pending a mandatory court appearance. Rasp was also issued a motor vehicle summons for failure to maintain a lane.
