Cigar Causes Early Afternoon Car Blaze
Madison Fire Department extinguished fire in minutes; no injuries reported.
The Madison Fire Department extinguished a car fire that shut down Greenwood Avenue between Elmer and Main streets for more than a half an hour on Tuesday afternoon. Madison Firefighter Kevin Williams said the call came in at 12:36 p.m. No one was injured in the incident. Fire Chief Lou DeRosa said the interior of the silver Nissan was in flames and the fire was just starting to break out when the department arrived. He said the operator of car was an elderly man who told them how he believed the fire began. "He stated to us he believes the head of his cigar came off in the car and got the interior of the car going," DeRosa said.
