Realogy Ribbon-Cutting Will Bring Governor to Madison

Real estate company's 950 employees have moved into new building on Park Avenue.

A ribbon-cutting ceremony for Realogy's new Park Avenue headquarters is expected to bring the governor to Madison next week. Gov. Chris Christie will be the guest of honor at the event Thursday morning, the real estate company said. Richard A. Smith, Realogy's chairman, CEO and president, Jon Hanson, the founder and chairman of Hampshire Real Estate Companies, which developed the former Verizon property, and Madison Mayor Bob Conley are expected to be in attendance. Realogy's relocation to Madison from Parsippany brought 950 employees to the borough. They moved in stages starting in April and finished moving in by the end of May. Updates: 'No Crews Released,' Call Center Closes

Some residents will be without power for up to five days.

Officials on Friday said about 20 percent of Madison in "trouble spots" remained without power, and Madison Electric employees were working 16-hour days, assisted by Verizon workers and two teams from Louisiana, to have power restored. The other side was the 80 percent who had power restored by Friday afternoon, including Drew University, the Madison Library, the Madison Area YMCA, most of Giralda Farms, and businesses willing to help residents charge electronics and warm up. Restoration still could be up to five days away for certain areas that suffered major damage to the electrical infrastructure, and Mayor Bob Conley urged those without power to reach out to neighbors who do have power, and vice versa. Statement from Mayor Robert Conley, 7:21 p.m. Wednesday Our planning for this epic storm began last week under the leadership of Emergency Management Coordinator and Councilman Bob Landrigan,  and Assistant Coordinator and Acting Police Chief Darren Datchison. I am very proud of the leadership they provided as they worked with department heads with coming up with plan to prepare for the storm and the expected recovery. As we know the work you do before an emergency is as important as the work that is done after the event. Also In addition to the Borough staff we have been supported dedicated volunteers manning the phones, staffing the shelter and making emergency calls to those in need. On the bright side of all this devastation is the fact that Madisonions came together and helped each other. Some checking in on the elderly, some bringing food to others. But our sincerest thanks go to the emergency workers and volunteers. We are truly blessed in this town.   more ›
