Madison Grad Scores in College Game Played at H.S.

Grant Foulsham also notched an assist, while the Dodgers scored their third win of the season.

Madison High School graduate Grant Foulsham capped his college lacrosse career with Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute with a second-period goal against Lebanon Valley on Saturday. Rensselaer won 12-2. In an unusual twist, the college's final game of the season was played at Madison High School. The Troy, N.Y., team was looking to play at a neutral site and wound up in the borough at Foulsham's alma mater, near several other players' hometowns. Foulsham was captain of the Madison High School squad in 2008 and has coached in the Madison junior program.  The Dodgers also won their game at home on Saturday, beating West Essex 15-8, according to NJ.com. Scoring were Michael Clemente with six goals, Billy Battaglia with five goals, and Phil Duffy…

Family Helps Martinek Make Giant Decision

Hopatcong's football star consulted those closest to him before making the biggest decision of his life.

It was late, and inside it was loud. The downstairs living room, filled with family and close friends, had grown from a chatty gathering to a party where the conversations were boisterous and predicated on the same question: Where was he going? Outside, the family talked. Because for Joe Martinek to do this, it had to be the same way he made his last life-changing decision—the choice to take a full Rutgers football scholarship after leaving Hopatcong High School as the state's all-time leading rusher. He needed his family's advice. So when the discussion ended and they walked into the kitchen, Martinek went into another room to have a final talk with his agent, Don Henderson. When he emerged a bit later and told his family he had signed …

Madison High Grad's College Team to Play at H.S.

Rensselaer Polytechnic facing Lebanon Valley at 3 p.m. Saturday, following noon Dodgers game.

Madison High School graduate Grant Foulsham is scheduled to play what could be his last college lacrosse game on what will, for him, be familiar turf. Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, the school Foulsham attends in Troy, N.Y., is scheduled to play Lebanon Valley at 3 p.m. Saturday at Madison High School, following the Dodgers game. Foulsham was captain of the Madison High School squad in 2008 and has coached in the Madison junior program in the summers.  The Dodgers are scheduled to play West Essex at noon at Ted Monica Stadium. Kevin Beattie, Rensselaer's associate athletic director, said it's not common for colleges to play at high schools, but it comes up every so often when teams want to play a neutral site game. Rensselaer has other …

Players paraded down Main Street to Dodge Field for a ceremony.

Madison Little League is celebrating is 60th anniversary this year, and League President Ernie Cicconi said much of the program's success is owed to Irv Valkys, the league's longtime former treasurer. Valkys was honored during the league's Opening Day ceremony at Dodge Field on Saturday afternoon. Players, coaches and fans paraded down Main Street from St. Vincent Martyr Church to the field for speeches and the ceremonial first pitch, thrown by Valkys' son, Mike.
