Santa Parade, Former Councilwoman Recognized This Week

Hanukkah, Thanksgiving, blood drive also in week ahead.

Proclamation for Former Councilwoman: Jeannie Tsukamoto, a member of Madison's governing body who resigned in August after nearly six years in office, is slated to receive a proclamation at the 8 p.m. Monday Borough Council meeting, according to the meeting agenda.

David J. Ernst is expected to take the oath of office to become a volunteer Madison firefighter. There also will be awards presented in connection with Madison's recent "Sustainability Champion" recognition by Sustainable Jersey.

A resolution declaring 39 Green Village Road in Madison, the site of a fire this month that burned off the roof of an apartment building undergoing renovations, as "an area in need of rehabilitation," is among the items on the agenda. A resolution authorizing AT&T to install a temporary antenna on the Madison Avenue water tank also is up for vote.

Board of Education: Madison's school board is scheduled to meet at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Madison High School library. A presentation of 2012-13 Audit Results by auditor Bill Schroeder, and a presentation by Katie Lemerich on "Math in Focus," a new elementary math curriculum in the district, are on the agenda.

Hanukkah: Wednesday is the first night of the holiday. Madison's Menorah Lighting by Chabad of SE Morris County is scheduled for 5 p.m. Sunday at the Madison Train Station on Kings Road. The lighting will be followed by latkes and treats at Hartley Dodge Memorial.

Turkey Time: Thanksgiving is Thursday. Schools are closed Thursday and Friday.

35th Annual Christmas Parade: Madison's 35th annual Christmas parade is scheduled to start promptly at 5:30 p.m. Friday. The parade passes the tree at Main Street and Waverly Place, marches down Main Street toward Whole Foods, and circles back to the tree via Kings Road for the tree lighting.

The Madison Arts & Culture Alliance's Eighth Holiday Arts Festival the same day will feature performances at businesses and other locations in the borough throughout the day.

Downtown merchants also will participate in a Christmas Walk, offering specials and refreshments to shoppers leading up to the parade.

Blood Drive: The Madison Elks will be hosting the 7th annual VC 77 Blood Drive with the Boy Scouts of America and American Red Cross Blood Drive from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday at the Madison Elks Lodge, 192 Main Street.

Electronics Recycling: Venture Crew 77 will again be collecting electronic items for proper disposal via the EPA Approved Recycling Firm eRevival from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday at the Madison Elks Lodge, 192 Main Street.

The group will collect

  • Monitors – All Kinds
  • Printers – Laser & Ink-Jet
  • Copiers
  • TVs & VCRs
  • Stereos, Radios, & Speakers
  • Medical Equipment
  • Business Equipment & Peripherals 

The group is asking for a $10 donation per carload  to support the Crew’s Training and local charities. People will be on hand to remove old hard drives.
