Charity Softball Game, Historic Walking Tours This Week

Borough Council meeting, film screening, 'Side by Side by Sondheim' also on tap.

Charity Softball: Madison Mayor Bob Conley and his team of borough staff and volunteers face off against Quest Diagnostics employees led by CEO Steve Rusckowski in a game scheduled for 5 p.m. Wednesday at Dodge Field. Funds raised will benefit the American Cancer Society and Project Community Pride, a Madison-based nonprofit that provides free counseling and support to local youth and their families. All are welcome to cheer on the teams. There will be food and live music by local band Group Therapy.

Borough Council: Madison's governing body is scheduled to meet at 8 p.m Monday at Hartley Dodge Memorial.

Summer Seminar Series: The 29th Summer Seminar Series at the Madison Public Library continues with two more lectures this week: one at 2 p.m. Monday discussing changes along the Jersey shore after Superstorm Sandy, and another at 10:30 a.m. Thursday on the future of unions. The lectures are free and open to the public.

Madison Farmers Market: The farmers' market is open from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday on Green Village Road off Main Street.

Historic Walking Tours:
The Historic Preservation Commission and Historical Society are offering free historic downtown walking tours at 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. Thursday. Tours will last 45 minutes to an hour. Those interested in attending should gather at the farmers' market.

'Side by Side by Sondheim': The Madison Recreation Department and Playwrights Theatre present "Side by Side by Sondheim" at 7:30 p.m. Thursday and Friday and 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Madison High School. Tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for students and children, free for senior citizens. For more information see the event listing.

Film Screening: A special charity screening of "Delivering the Goods" to benefit the Mt. Pleasant Animal Shelter is scheduled for 9:30 a.m. Saturday at Clearview Cinemas in Madison, 14 Lincoln Place. The film was written by a Mt. Pleasant volunteer. The screening includes a Q&A with the writers. Tickets $8 in advance or $10 at the door.

Car Wash: Madison High School Marching Dodgers are putting down their instruments for their 4th annual fundraising car wash scheduled for 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday outside Hollenbach Family Chiropractic, at 250 Main Street, across from Coviello's Garden Center. $10 per car.
