IN SHORT
Madison wasted no time on Saturday, capitalizing on some poor Par Hills' fielding on their way to an 8-0 lead after two innings. Starting pitcher Mike Wallace benefited from the early lead, on his way to a complete-game, eight-strikeout performance.
DODGER OF THE GAME
Mike Wallace — The Madison starter was impressive on the bump on Saturday as he hurled a complete game, scattering six hits to lead Madison to its first MCT win in more than 10 years.
“It’s really an honor to be the pitcher today. When coach gave the ball to me for this game I was very excited because I knew I could get the first [MCT] win for Madison in a long time. My curveball was really on today. I was throwing it in for strikes a lot and I think that’s a really big improvement for me because throughout the season, I’ve really been struggling with that pitch.” —Wallace
OTHER KEY PERFORMANCES
Connor Allen (Madison), 2-for-3 with a three-run double in the second inning; Mike Haughey (Madison), 2-for-3 with two singles, one walk, two stolen bases and two runs scored; Jake Meister (Madison), 2-for-3 with a double and a walk, one RBI and one run scored; Stephen Fichter (Parsippany Hills), 2-for-3 with a single, double and two RBIs.
THEY SAID IT
"We’ve had a pretty good 24 hours. We knocked off Pequannock yesterday (a 10-7 win in Pequannock), there aren’t too many teams that beat Pequannock twice a year like we did this year. And then we come out and get our first county victory in a decade. What’s impressive is that I really believe that these guys feel that their work hasn’t been accomplished yet. I have a good feeling about this group. They’re doing all the right things right now and offensively we’ve swung the bats pretty well the last couple of days.” —Head Coach Mickey Ennis
