Senior-laden Dodgers Baseball Looking to Go Deep
Madison returns entire starting lineup from 2010.
The weather is starting to warm up (pay no attention to the snow on the ground), and that means spring sports are about to start for varsity squads. As opening day approaches, we're taking a look at each of the teams as they ready for competition. Today, we preview the Dodgers baseball team.
Overview
One of the best things that any coach can ask for coming into a new season is continuity in his starting lineup. That’s the case for second-year Madison baseball head coach Mickey Ennis, who returns his entire pitching staff and starting line-up from 2010.

Ennis' first season in Madison saw the Dodgers pitching develop on the way to an 11-13 mark, with a starting line-up made up entirely of underclassmen.
Keep Your Eye On
- Jake Meister, Shortstop (Sr.)—Meister gets set to start his fourth year on varsity, captaining the middle of the Madison infield at shortstop. Look for big things from the Dodger senior with both his glove and bat in 2011.
- Mike Haughey, Centerfield (Sr.)—Haughey begins his third season as a starter in the Madison outfield.
- Conner Allen, Starting Pitcher (Sr.)—The 6’3” 225-pound righthander throws a fastball in the mid to upper 80-mph range, and will be counted on as the ace of a Madison rotation full of potential.
They'll Miss
- Alex Ruiz, Catcher—While a designated hitter took his turn in the lineup, the Dodgers lose their starting backstop from 2010. Ennis is confident that Mike Wulff will be able to step in behind the plate.
Coach's Take
-
"We return every starting player from last year, so we’re expecting a big year. We return every inning on the mound from last year, we return every RBI, every base hit. The entire team is back and that’s pretty exciting for us.” —Ennis
They Said It
-
"We returned everyone, basically, and everyone is aware of what they need to do. Last year was Coach Ennis’ first year, so we were just getting adjusted to him. This year we’re a lot more familiar with him, a lot more familiar with where we’re playing, and I think it should be a better year.” —Meister
“There’s a lot of promise so far. New season, new team, but it's definitely with guys that we’ve done it with before, so hopefully good things are to come.” —Haughey
