NY Jets Helipad Application Withdrawn

Hundreds of Madison residents signed a petition opposing the plan.

An application to build a helipad at the New York Jets training facility in Florham Park has been withdrawn, the Florham Park Planning Board secretary said Thursday.

A hearing on the plan was expected to be on the agenda for the Florham Park Planning Board meeting next week, after having been postponed since May, but Florham Park received a letter from the applicant's attorney Wednesday saying the proposal was being withdrawn.

No ruling on the issue ever was made and the application was pulled without prejudice, meaning they could apply again.

While 1 Jets Drive off Park Avenue is in Florham Park, it's near Madison neighborhoods and prompted a petition opposing the application that was signed by hundreds of borough residents.

They cited concerns about noise and pointed out that Morristown Municipal Airport is about a mile away.

"It's great news for Madison residents in that part of town," Madison Mayor Bob Conley said, adding that he expects the team will be well-served by the nearby airport.

"I think this is great for Madison, Florham Park and the Jets," he said. "I would call it the first victory of the season for the Jets."

Messages seeking comment were left with the Jets and the law firm Day Pitney, which represented the applicant, Florham Park Helipad LLC.
