Players from Chatham, Madison, Clark and Berkeley Heights participated in the Chatham Invitational Tournament’s Home Run Derby on Sunday. Though it got a late start, the Derby provide players and fans alike a no-pressure competition with the simple message to “have fun.”
THE SETUP
Each team chose its top four hitters to compete in the Home Run Derby. The players got to hit off a shortened field using a temporary home plate at the pitchers mound while their teammates and competitors hoped for the chance to field a ball in the outfield. A pitching machine fed by a Chatham coach provided the ammo for the players. Each competitor received two warm-up pitches, and 10 regular pitches, which they had to swing at.
