League Backs Drew's StrikeOut Cancer Doubleheader

First game at Drew against Stevens Institute starts at 3 p.m.

The softball team is scheduled to host its first StrikeOut Cancer Day in a doubleheader Tuesday afternoon.

Facing Stevens Institute in a non-conference matchup, the Rangers will wear pink jerseys to show support for StrikeOut Cancer, an initiative of the American Cancer Society and the National Fastpitch Coaches Association, according to an announcement for the event.

The day will start with a ceremonial first pitch thrown by woman who is battling breast cancer and cancer facts will be read between innings in place of the standard music, the announcement said.

Donations will be accepted throughout the games, and T-shirts and concessions will be for sale. Additionally, there will be a framed, autographed 8x10 photograph of Victor Cruz of the Super Bowl Champion New York Giants up for raffle. The photograph captures one of Cruz's early touchdown receptions in October, Breast Cancer Awareness Month, against the Seattle Seahawks. Raffle tickets will be available for $5 each.

The Madison Softball League, whose players work with Drew athletes in a four-week winter clinic, have an added incentive to attend the game: the first 20 girls in the league, which is headed by Rob Welter, to attend the doubleheader receive a free StrikeOut Cancer T-shirt.
