Madison Girls Basketball Wins on Senior Night

Nikki Caruso and Ali Foulsham lead Dodgers in scoring.

The Madison High School girls basketball team easily defeated the Dover Tigers on Thursday night, 42-25, getting their first win since a victory over Mountain Lakes on Jan. 26.

It was senior night for the Madison girls. The team's four seniors, Ali Foulsham, Evan Foulsham, Chelsea Davies and Rachel Misko were honored with their parents before the game.

"We will miss the other girls and playing with them the most," Davies said.

All four girls will be going to college and playing Division I sports next year, with the Foulshams joining the Penn State lacrosse team, Misko attending Bucknell and playing field hockey, and Davies, also playing field hockey, attending the University of Richmond.

"We were really excited for senior night," said Evan Foulsham. "Senior night is always important to us."

The Dodgers were trailing for most of the first quarter, until they scored six points in the last minute on two steals and lay-ups from Nikki Caruso and a steal and a lay-up from Ali Foulsham to bring Madison up 14-9 going into the second quarter.

Both teams improved their defenses in the second quarter. Sam Cicconi led the defense for the Dodgers, playing her signature fast-paced and persistent defensive style. She was playing like a free safety, at times lingering just far enough away from the Dover girls as to not be noticed but just close enough to close in at the last possible moment. She did that three times to Dover passes in the second quarter.

At half, the score was 20-13. Madison had outscored Dover 6-4 in the second quarter, and continued to outscore the Tigers throughout the second half as well.

The Dodgers were spreading the ball well, with six Madison girls scoring in the third quarter alone. Caruso led in scoring for the game, with 14 points total. Ali Foulsham scored 10, two of them three-pointers.

"I think we just wanted to have fun and win," said Ali Foulsham.

With the season coming to a close and playoffs in the near future, the Madison seniors are looking to go out with a bang.

"We are hoping we can pull off some wins … this is the first time we have been in states for basketball," said Misko.

The Dodgers' next game is a make up of a snowed out game against Chatham and is scheduled for Feb. 22 at 4 p.m. at Madison High School. Chatham (18-4) has won five straight, overcoming winning teams like Hanover Park (15-5), Pequannock (17-3), and Parsippany (12-9) during the run.
