Jets' Tanner Purdum Visits Junior Football Practice

Long snapper talked to Madison third- through fifth-graders about the importance of keeping good grades.

Tanner Purdum, the long snapper for the New York Jets, visited Madison Junior Football practices on Monday at Dodge Field.

Purdum talked to more than 80 third- through fifth-graders at the Madison Pre-Clinic, Clinic and Pee Wee football practices, and stressed the importance of doing well in school.

He said maintaining good grades allowed him to play football through college and then enter the NFL. Purdum demonstrated how he snaps, gave some one-on-one instruction to the Pee Wee snapper, and provided autographs. He also fielded questions ranging from what his number is (46) to whether he gets to play in every game (yes).

Purdum, a Morris Plains resident, is in his third season with the Jets. His agent, Rob Roche, is a Madison pre-clinic coach for his son Robert's team.
