Jets Cheerleader Hopefuls May Get 'Priority Boarding'

Prep classes at the New York Jets training facility in Florham Park will let some Flight Crew applicants bypass part of the audition process.

Auditions for the New York Jets Flight Crew are approaching in April.

But before auditions start at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, the team is holding a series of $30 prep classes at the Atlantic Health Jets Training Center in Florham Park.

The classes, which do not guarantee a spot on the squad, but should help during auditions, are "supportive and non-competitive" and include a Q&A session with the director of the Flight Crew, Denise Garvey, an announcement on the team website says.

For the first time this year, prep class attendees have the chance of receiving "priority boarding." At each class, a dancer who stands out will be selected to bypass the preliminary audition and go straight to the semifinal round, according the website.

The first class is March 14.

A member of the Flight Crew in 2010 said being on the field with the Jets is unreal.

"It sends chills down your spine because this is what you've been preparing for," the member, Danielle Barhold, said.

She said auditioning at the time was a two-week process that included a formal business interview, semi final audition and final audition.

"It's an experience you can take with you even if you don't make it," she said.

More information about the classes and auditions is available on the Jets website.
