Haughey Helps Madison to 6-3 Record on Diamond

Baseball benefits from senior's consistency.

The baseball team has surprised some with their impressive 6-3 start to the 2011 season. And with so much talent around the diamond, sometimes finding one person who stands out is harder that it seems.

But this week, senior Mike Haughey made his case as he helped lead the Dodgers to a big win over longtime rival Chatham.

Haughey went 3-for-4 with three singles, driving in two RBIs, stealing two bases and scoring two runs, helping the Dodgers to a come-from-behind 9-7 win.

Along with an impressive bat, the Madison senior has been just as consistent with his glove, as he patrols centerfield for the Dodgers.

While Madison dropped a tough 4-2 decision to Hawthorn on Saturday, Haughey continued to hit, going 1-for-3 in the loss.

"Mike is the hottest hitter and is the best defensive outfielder in the conference," Madison head coach Mickey Ennis said. "He steals bases, drives in runs, is the toughest out in our lineup and is always positive. Mike is the leader on this team. His enthusiasm is contagious and he keeps our players and coaches loose."
