IN SHORT
After falling behind 2-0 after two innings, the Dodger bats came alive, producing back-to-back five-run innings in the third and fourth. Led by starting pitcher Connor Allen’s complete game three-hitter and first baseman Tom Tracy’s three RBI effort, Madison stopped the Minutemen on the ten run rule.
DODGER OF THE GAME
Tom Tracy—2-for-2 including a solo home run and a two-run single, one stolen base, and three runs scored. Tracy started the Dodger rally in the bottom of the third, roping a single to left, scoring two and tying the game, 2-2. The Madison first baseman worked two walks on the day and in the fourth inning the senior made a heads up play, tagging from third on a foul pop-up near first base, putting Madison ahead, 8-2. Tracy wasn’t finished, though, hammering a mammoth homer to left center, extending the Madison lead to 10-2.
“I better be careful, because Tom Tracy may want to transfer here [Governor Livingston High School], because he hit two balls in the woods last year in this tournament, as big as (his homerun on Saturday). Tracy is a home run guy. He led the team last year and he just cut that one loose. He’s a clutch hitter, that’s why he’s at the No. 3 spot.”- Madison Head Coach Mickey Ennis
OTHER KEY PERFORMANCES
Connor Allen (Madison), five innings pitched, two runs allowed on three hits and five strikeouts; Mike Wolff (Madison), 3-for-4 with one RBI and two runs scored; Connor Higgins (Madison), 1-for-3 with two walks, three RBIs and two runs scored.
“This is what we need from Connor Allen. A guy like that comes out, falls behind 2-0, he’s patient and he keeps us in the game right there at 2-0, and we’re able to come back and have a couple of big innings.” –Ennis
THEY SAID IT
" Great way to open up the season and we’re excited about this season. We did what we needed to do and what I also like is that we were able to put them away over the next couple of innings after we took the lead. We just can’t be satisfied and I don’t think they were, our team that is, going into the fourth and fifth innings."–Ennis
