Dodger 5th Grade Lax Splits Home and Away Day

Madison boys raise season record to 13-4.

Dodgers 5, Chester/Mendham 6 (OT)

Only Mother Nature knew how to cool off the 13-4 Madison Dodgers 5th grade boys lacrosse team, who saw their first action in a week in Saturday morning’s showdown with Chester/Mendham’s combined team on a soggy Bayley Ellard field. After Chester/Mendham took a 1-0 lead 2:25 into the game, Tommy “Puzzles” MacCowatt won the ensuing face-off, took the ball down the field, and scored to even the game at 1-1. Later in the first quarter, John McCarthy of Madison made a nice pass to Ryan “Warrior” Schmitz for a great one-timer.  Entering the second period, Madison saw its 2-1 lead evaporate as Chester/Mendham tied the game off of an errant pass by the Dodgers.  Later in the second, MacCowatt made a brilliant pass to Ian Waresk for the score and the Dodgers led at halftime, 3-2. The third quarter was all Chester/Mendham, which scored three unanswered goals and took a 5-3 lead going into the fourth quarter. In the final period Madison made a stand thanks to the physical play of defensemen Mark Cowan and Jeremy Nugent, who helped create several turnovers. MacCowatt then earned a hat trick as he forced the game into overtime at 5-5. In overtime, the Dodgers lost the opening face-off and Chester/Mendham came down the field and scored.

Dodgers 7, East Hanover 0
On Saturday night, the Dodgers showed what a short memory was all about as they traveled down Ridgedale Avenue to East Hanover for a showdown under the lights at Lurker Park. Madison controlled most of this game with great play from defensemen Pierson Rambusch, Cowen, Nugent, Scott Priscu, Schmitz, and Matt Lamb. The six defensemen rotated in half-quarter shifts and allowed just nine shots for the game on goalie Drake Mead. In the first quarter, attackman Nate Kilmaszewski fed the ball to Jack “Blackjack” Tamburro to get the Dodgers on the board, 1-0.  In the second quarter, attackman Cole “A-Train” Johnson scored on a one-timer from fellow attacker Joe Moceri.  Johnson gave up his body and took a nasty check in the process of scoring his first goal of the year. After halftime, the Dodgers built on their 2-0 lead with a hat trick from Nick O’Hara. Also scoring in the game were Dillon O’Loughlin and Schmitz.

This week, the Dodgers play their final regular-season games of the season. On Tuesday and Wednesday, the Dodgers will square off against two of Summit’s 5th grade teams at 6:30 p.m. at .
