Boro Softballers Contribute Toward Turf Fields Project

Sports org user fees part of MRC financing plan.

While contractors continue to make progress on the fields of the Madison Recreation Complex, community backers of the project have been marking progress of a different sort.

This week at the Madison Borough Council meeting, the Womens Division of Madison Softball presented a check for $2,560 to the Madison Athletic Foundation.

The check, presented by Suzanne Bassolino, manager of the Womens Division, and Lisa Hall, represents user fees from 128 players who participated in the summer softball program.

The fields project is being financed by $3.5 million in low-interest, short-term bonds. Interest and principal on the bonds are expected to be paid off through a combination of user fees, grants, Open Space Trust Fund monies and private donations.

In June, Madison Softball President Rob Welter presented the organization's first check of $6,760 to the MAF in support of the turf field project, on behalf of 338 youth players who participated in the spring program.
