Boardman's Road Led to Atlantic City, Patch Honors

Senior wrestler garners Winter Athlete of the Year award.

The 2010-11 season was one of accomplishments for Michael Boardman, as the senior followed up a historic season on the gridiron with both team and individual success on the wrestling mat.

Boardman's success earned him Madison Patch's Winter Athlete of the Year honors.

As a starting offensive lineman for the Madison football team this fall, Boardman—nicknamed 'Freight Train'—helped the Dodgers to a perfect 12-0 record and their first state title in 12 years.

In the winter, Boardman hit the mats as the starting heavyweight for the Madison wrestling team, amassing a dominant 32-9 record, the best of his career, and leading the Dodgers to a 15-5 record and their first conference title in five years.

But the grappler's senior campaign didn't end with an impressive regular season and Independence Division title, as the Dodger captain still had some work to do.

Boardman went into his senior campaign with one individual goal in mind, to wrestle in the state tournament in Atlantic City in March.

So, with the boardwalk beckoning, Boardman produced his best performances of the season on his way to back-to-back second-place finishes in both the District 10 and Region 3 tournaments.

The second-place finish in the Region 3 tournament enabled Boardman to advance to the state championships, tacking on yet another accomplishment to the growing  list in 2011.
