Superintendent: Safety Primary Factor in School Closings, Delays

Dr. Michael Rossi addresses 'inconvenience' this week's weather caused as schools delayed again on Thursday.

Madison students will get to sleep in again on Thursday.

Schools will have a two-hour delay in the aftermath of the snow and ice storm that cancelled classed on Wednesday.

The wintry weather wreaked havoc this week on school schedules statewide. The pair of storms that each produced heavy snowfall closed school twice and caused two delayed openings in Madison.

Madison Superintendent Michael Rossi posted a statement Tuesday on the district's website addressing the school closings and delays and the "inconvenience" they may cause.

"Please be advised that we are using all our resources to manage these conditions," Rossi's statement said. "We, similar to other school districts, have a finite number of individuals and vehicles available to treat snow, sleet and freezing rain. As you make your way around the borough you can see the increasing piles of snow that line the roadways.

"As you can imagine, the simple volume of snow makes it extremely difficult to provide clear walkways, egress and parking spaces for students, staff and parents. The only factor that goes into any decisions to delay and/or close school is the safety of your children and our employees."
