Nine Bullying Incidents This Year in Madison Schools

Superintendent offers report in keeping with anti-bullying law.

There were nine confirmed instances of bullying at Madison schools this year, according to a report given by Madison Superintendent Dr. Michael Rossi at this week's Board of Education meeting.

Rossi said the district prepared a report for the state Department of Education about the number of harassment, intimidation and bullying—or HIB—incidents and anti-bullying measures taken by the district to fulfill a requirement of a new anti-bullying law.

He said there were five confirmed incidents at Madison High School, three at Central Avenue School, one at Kings Road School, and none at Torey J. Sabatini School or Madison Junior School.

He said the Department of Education also visited Torey J. Sabatini School in June to review the state's Electronic Violence and Vandalism Reporting System, and found the school was in compliance with the law. Rossi said the visit affirmed the district's practices are "consistent with the intent and spirit of the law."
