Rowe Running for Re-election to Board of Education

Vice president was first elected to board in 2004 and is seeking a third term.

Patrick Rowe, currently serving as vice president of the Board of Education, has announced he will run for re-election.

Rowe, 50, has served in the position since 2005 and is completing his second term on the board. He was first elected in April of 2004.

During his time on the board, Rowe has served as the head of the finance committee and as co-chair of the shared services committee. He is also currently the board's liaison to the Madison Recreation Center's active recreation sub-committee.

"The district, under Dr. Noonan and his team's leadership, has moved the district forward on many fronts," Rowe said in a release. "The administration and board continually strive to maintain Madison's status as one of the best school districts in the state, and I am very proud of the strong academic achievements of our students."

Rowe also led the Green Village Road School committee and is chairing the contract negotiation team as it prepares to begin contract talks with the district's employee associations.

Rowe touts the following as positive changes during the past three years: completing the referendum work on time and under budget; completing the strategic planning process begun in 2006 to address the long term needs of the school system; advancing the disposition of the Green Village Road School to turn it into a financial asset for the district; and working more closely with the borough on shared services opportunities, including the Madison Recreation Center.

"Three years ago when I ran for re-election, the district was in the midst of several exciting initiatives including the referendum work," Rowe said in his release. "We were also starting to face many financial challenges, and today, those challenges are even greater. With the economy still in poor shape, the state has already signaled that it expects to be providing less in state aid than it has in recent years.  Additionally, our expenses, including staff and energy costs, continue to grow at a rate that outpaces our revenue streams and will need to be addressed.

"At this critical time, I feel it is important that the board maintain its continuity and momentum, and to continue its focus on the future," Rowe continued in the release. "I would like to continue my work with the board, administration and community on these issues and to maintain the momentum we've built up the past six years. Therefore, I am seeking re-election this year. For the past six years I have been honored to serve as one of the community's representative on the board, and I am asking everyone for their support on Election Day–April 20."

Rowe lives in Madison with his wife Kim, and their two children, Courtney, 17, and Bryan, 14. Both attend Madison High School. Rowe and his wife have been in the borough since 1990.

Rowe is a global strategic account manager with EMC in his professional life. He received his BS in electrical engineering technology, and MBA in industrial management from Fairleigh Dickinson University.
