Newsweek: Madison a Top U.S. High School

Publication ranks MHS 276 in the best 1,000.

is one of the best high schools in the nation at getting students ready for college, according to one national publication.

Newsweek announced Monday that Madison High School has made its list of "America's Best High Schools 2012." The publication listed its top 1,000 public high schools "that have proven to be the most effective in turning out college-ready grads."

The publication ranked Madison No. 26 in New Jersey and No. 276 in the country. The school with the best rank in Morris County was Chatham High School, rated No. 14 in the state and No. 183 in the nation.

Other nearby open enrollment high schools included Summit at No. 251 nationally, Livingston at No. 253, Glen Ridge at No. 255 and West Morris Mendham at No. 291.

The publication says its list is based on six components provided by school administrators: graduation rate, college matriculation rate, AP/IB/AICE tests taken per student, average SAT/ACT scores, average AP/IB/AICE scores, and AP courses offered per student.
