Madison Has 26th Best High School in NJ, Report Says

School moves up one spot in the state rankings from last year, but drops on the national list.

Madison continued its crawl up the list of Best High Schools in New Jersey, according to U.S. News and World Report's annual rankings.

Madison High moved up to No. 26 in the state in this year's list, which was released Tuesday. That's up one spot from last year and three spots from 2012.

Madison, however, dropped in the national rankings to No. 550 (silver medal) from No. 502 (gold medal) last year. The School for the Talented and Gifted in Dallas, Texas was the nation's top-ranked high school, according to the report.

Freehold's Biotechnology High School was the top-rated New Jersey high school, while in the region, Ridge High School was No. 7, Chatham High was No. 9 and Millburn was No. 13.

U.S. News and World Report compiled the 2014 Best High Schools list based on "school-specific data on location, enrollment, ethnicity, school type and results of state assessment proficiency tests and Advanced Placement and International Baccalaureate tests. Using some of these data and a comprehensive methodology, U.S. News gave each eligible school a College Readiness Index score, and then numerically ranked and awarded gold, silver and bronze medals."
