"The Lathop and Gibbons Families: The Civil War through the Gilded Age"

William Gibbons, a wealthy southerner with plantations in Georgia, built in the north the 1836 Mead Hall (now part of Drew University), and died in 1852.  Susan L. Simon, president of the Madison Historical Society, will discuss William Gibbons's children, who survive the Civil War, and struggle to preserve the extensive family property on both side of the war.
