Your Guide to Tuesday's General Election

Voters to cast ballots for mayor, council, freeholder and state representatives.

Voters will be heading to the polls Tuesday to elect a mayor, two council members, a freeholder and state representatives and express themselves on one statewide ballot question in the 2011 General Election.

Polls will be open Tuesday from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m.

In the race for a four-year-term for mayor, incumbent , a Republican, is being challenged by Democrat . Conley has served on the council, but did not file for re-election in order to enter the mayoral race.

As a result, two three-year seats on the Borough Council are on the ballot, with five candidates vying for the posts: Republicans , who served on the council from 1994-1999, and and Democrats and , a council member from 2003-2008.

Though not officially on the ballot, Councilman Sam Cerciello will be seeking to hold the council seat he was elected to for a special two-year term on the GOP ticket in 2009. He had originally intended to run for mayor as an Independent but is now running a write-in campaign for a council seat as an Independent.

Voters will also fill one three-year seat on the Morris County Board of Freeholders. On the ballot are four-term incumbent Republican Margaret Nordstrom, of Washington Township, who apparently lost the primary only to have the state Superior Court void the primary and earn the county Republican Committee’s nomination, and Democrat Truscha Quatrone, of Montville Township.

As part of the new Madison voters will be joining residents of Chatham Township, Florham Park, Harding Township, East Hanover and Hanover Township and the Essex County towns of South Orange, West Orange, Livingston, Maplewood, Caldwell, Roseland, Essex Fells and Millburn Township in electing state legislators.

The Democrats’ slate includes incumbent State Senator of Roseland, and Assemblywoman of South Orange, and Assemblyman , of West Orange.

The Republican ticket features , of Hanover Township, for state Senate and of Chatham Township, and of Livingston, for the two Assembly seats.

Residents will also be voting on a statewide related to amending the state constitution to allow betting on sports events at Atlantic City casinos and racetracks.

Madison voters can cast their ballots at the following locations:

  • District 5: Madison Public Library, Chase Auditorium, 39 Keep St.
  • District 6: Madison Housing Authority, Community Room, 15 Chateau Thierry
  • District 7: Grace Episcopal Church, Parish Hall, 4 Madison Ave.
  • District 8: YMCA, Front Left Lobby, 111 Kings Road
  • District 9:  New Life Fellowship, Fellowship Hall, 203 Green Ave.
  • District 10: North Star Athletic Club, Front Entrance Room, 95 North St.
  • District 11: Grace Episcopal Church, Parish Hall, 4 Madison Ave.
  • District 12: Grace Episcopal Church, Parish Hall, 4 Madison Ave.
