Catalanello, Rowe GOP Nominees for Madison Council

Councilman and Board of Ed vice president received most votes in five-way Republican primary.

Unofficial primary election results Tuesday night showed Councilman Robert Catalanello and Board of Education Vice President Pat Rowe winning the Republican nominations to two Borough Council seats, coming out ahead of three other candidates in the GOP primary.

They will be on the ballot in November with Democratic nominees Jeff Gertler and Maureen Byrne, who ran unopposed for their party's nomination.

Catalanello and Rowe were challenged by Eric Range and Diane Driscoll, who ran in the primary as a team. Also running was Carmen Pico, who sought a Council seat in the last election.

Catalanello and Rowe emailed a statement Tuesday thanking supporters and saying they plan to run a campaign based on the issues:

We would like to thank the Republicans in Madison for supporting our campaign and selecting us as the Republican nominees for Madison Borough Council.  We are grateful that five qualified Republican candidates were willing to serve the community.

We talked to many voters the past two months who acknowledged our strong records of public service, and echoed our belief that it is essential we do everything possible to make Madison a more affordable and desirable place to live.

We plan to run a strong campaign based on the issues—containing municipal taxes, increasing financial transparency and boosting critical infrastructure repairs—and reach out to all Madisonians for their support this fall.

Range and Driscoll congratulated the nominees, and said they were pleased their campaign gave voters a choice:

When we began down the road of campaign we believed that our fellow Madison Republicans deserved a choice in who received our party's nomination. Regardless of the outcome, we are pleased that we were able provide our community with that choice.

We both look forward to continuing serving the Madison community in various ways and congratulate our fellow Republicans on their nominations.

The unofficial vote totals in this story were updated from an earlier version.
