Shelters and Charging Stations Open in Morris County

Where residents can go to plug in and warm up amid widespread power outages.

The following list of shelters and warming and charging stations around Morris County is based on a list posted by the Morris County Office of Emergency Management and Patch reports. You can post updates in the comments or contact Jake Remaly at 973-452-1013 or jacob.remaly@patch.com.

Shelters:

  • East Hanover Middle School: residents only.
  • Morris Township Mennen Arena, East Hanover Avenue
  • Madison: Madison Ambulance Building (across from Public Safety Building). 25 Beds, food and comfort kits from Red Cross. NO ANIMALS allowed.
  • Madison: Civic Center, Walnut Street
  • Mendham Borough: Sisters of Christian Charity
  • Montville: Cedar Hill Elementary School (animals allowed)
  • Mountain Lakes: High School
  • Parsippany: Parsippany High School, 309 Baldwin Road, residents only. People may bring pets. They will be taken to Parsippany Animal Control.
  • Hopatcong: High School, Jefferson and Roxbury residents
  • Washington Twp: Schooley's Mountain firehouse; residents only

  • Boonton (Town of):
    • Town Hall warming & charging 8:30AM to 4:30PM
  • Boonton Township:
    • Municipal Building 155 Powerville Road; warming & charging 8AM to 5PM
  • Chatham Boro:
    • Chatham Fire Department, Fire House Plaza
    • Library of the Chathams, Main Street, regular business hours for warming & charging
    • The Chatham Club is now open from 8 AM to 5 PM and is limited to non-members for charging station and Wi-Fi access. Please be considerate of Chatham Club members while using the facility.
  • Chatham Twp:
    • Library of the Chathams, Main Street, regular business hours for warming & charging

  • Chester Boro:
    • Town hall at 50 North Rd has power and is open as a warming center. Residents are welcome to come warm up, recharge cell phones or other electronic devices, utilize the kitchen in the break room, and socialize anytime between the hours of 9am-5pm. No overnight stays are permitted at this facility. 
  • Denville:
    • St Francis Health Resort, 122 Diamond Spring Road. This will be a place to warm, coffee and cell phone charging station. It will be open from 11am-4pm. Today (10/31) will be 2pm-4pm.
  • Dover:
    • Municipal Building - warming & charging. 6PM to 10PM, October 31; 8:30AM to 10PM Friday.
    • Dover High School - warning station for residents only
  • East Hanover:
    • Overnight Shelter at East Hanover Middle School.
  • Florham Park:
    • Firehouse on Brooklake Road for warming & charging 24 hours a day
      • Holy Family Church charging station and information center set up in parking lot, available 24 hours a dayHarding:
      • Christ-the-King Church is open as a warming cenbter and cell-phone recharging center 24 hours a day. The Municipal Building on Blue Mill Road is now operating on emergency generator power and will remain open during normal business hours.
    • Jefferson:
      • Senior Center and Lake Hopatcong Fire Company #2 firehouse are available for warming & charging 24 hours a day.
    • Kinnelon:
      • Kiel School is available for warming & charging 24 hours a day.
    • Lincoln Park:
      • Community Meeting Room in Borough Hallis available for warming & charging 24 hours a day.
      • Please bring extension cords or power strips with multiple receptacles to help others charge at the same time.  Please be considerate of the room and other residents.
    • Long Hill:
      • Town Hall for warming & charging 9AM to 6PM; Saturday and Sunday - 9AM to 2PM
  • Madison:
    • Town Hall for warming & charging 8AM to 8PM
    • Public Safety Building charging station available 24 hours a day
  • Morristown: Town Hall (for warming and charging); Morristown Fire Department, Bethel A.M.E. Church, Church of the Assumption, St. Peters Church (for charging)
  • Morris Plains:
    • Warming & electronics recharging center: Community Center in Community Park. Open daily from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. until power has been restored throughout the Borough.
    • Vineyard Community Church, 60 E. Hanover Ave., Morris Plains is open for free internet, phone/ipad charging, coffee/tea/hot chocolate, movies for adults and kids. Hours: 8 a.m. until 9 p.m. Thursday and Friday, until 3 p.m. on Saturday
  • Morris Township
    • Fire Houses are open with access to outlets.
  • Mt Arlington:
    • Civic Center is available for warming & charging 4PM to 9PM
  • Mount Olive:
    • For residents: Warming & charging, potable water, are available at the MO Senior Center noon until 11:00pm
  • Mountain Lakes:
    • Mountain Lakes High School is currently open as a shelter and will remain open daily until no longer needed by our residents.
  • Parsippany:
    • For residents: Warming & charging available at Littleton Elementary School, 51 Brooklawn Drive, 6 a.m-6 p.m.
  • Randolph:
    • Town Hall is open until 8PM for warming & charging 10/31. We will re-open tomorrow at 7AM (bottled water is available)

      Public Works Center on Sussex Turnpike is open until 8PM. We will re-open tomorrow at 8AM (bottled water is available).

      The Ironia Firehouse on Dover Chester Road is open until 8PM.

      The Millbrook Fire House on Route 10 West is open until 8PM.
  • Riverdale:
    • Community Center is available for warming & charging until 10PM.
  • Rockaway Boro:
    • Rockaway Borough Free Public Library

    • Police Headquarters is available for warming & charging 24 hours a day.
    • Library is available for warming & charging during normal business hours.
  • Roxbury:
    • The Town Hall, 72 Eyland and the Library, Main St, are available as warming & charging stations during normal business hours.
    • As of 10am 10/31 the fire houses in Succasunna, Berkshire valley and on Shippenport Rd in Landing are open as hygiene centers providing bathroom facilities and the filling of potable water containers.
    • Roxbury High School is available for warming and charging from 10:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday and Friday.
