Union Beach Campers Send 'Thank You' Postcards to Madison

'I am having a great time right now!' one kid wrote.

S'mores, rock wall climbing and new friendships were among the summer camp highlights shared in "thank you" postcards to Madison from children affected by Superstorm Sandy.

Children from Union Beach got to attend camp at no cost to their families because of donations from the Madison community.

Madison partnered with Union Beach to help the shore town recover after the storm, and made raising money for "camperships" among its efforts to help. Fundraisers included the Rotary Club of Madison's Family Festival and a townwide garage sale.

Madison Mayor Bob Conley read some of the campers' postcards during the last Borough Council meeting. The postcards also can be read on the borough website.

"So far so good!" one camper wrote. "I am having a great time right now! Made 2 new friends. Camp is awesome!"

Before reading the postcards, Conley recognized William Dalrymple, a Vauxhall Home Deport manager who helped coordinate discounts on materials used during rebuilding.
