Tuesday Elections Primarily a Formality for Local Madison Candidates

Borough voters head to polls for first time as part of reconfigured 27th District.

Tuesday is primary elections day in New Jersey, and while Madison's Borough Council primaries are uncontested, residents will cast votes for state candidates for the first time as part of the 27th District.

A flood of write-in votes notwithstanding, the primary is uncontested based on the candidates on the ballots. For November's general election, Landrigan and Barbato will take the two slots for the Republicans; the Democrats will put up McDowell and Vitale.

District 27

Voters on Tuesday also will choose candidates for the November elections, when they will select one Senator and two Assembly members.

Former Democratic Gov. is running with Assemblyman John McKeon and Assemblywoman Mila Jasey in the newly configured 27th district that includes portions of Essex and Morris counties, including Madison. Former Millburn Mayor Ellen Steinberg is challenging McKeon and Jasey of South Orange.

Steinberg, an attorney from Short Hills, was a Chatham resident for 17 years. She made an unsuccessful bid for the state assembly prior to winning election to the Millburn Township Committee in 2005.

Republicans Lee Holtzman, an attorney from Livingston, and Chatham Township Mayor Nicole Hagner will vie with the Democratic winners of Tuesday’s primary in the November elections.

Codey is running unopposed in the primary, and will meet either Essex Fells Councilman William Sullivan or Tea Party candidate William Eames following the GOP primary.
