Trooper Assigned to Protect Christie Accused of Stealing Ammo From Pa. Store

William A. Carvounis, 35, allegedly tried to use his connection to the governor to get out of the charges, report says.

A New Jersey State Trooper assigned to Chris Christie's protective detail was arrested last month for allegedly stealing more than $250 worth of ammunition from a Pennsylvania store and apparently tried to use his connection to the governor to get out of the charges.

Trooper William A. Carvounis, 35, was accused of stealing $267 worth of ammunition from a sporting goods store on Jan. 8 in Tilden, Pa., about 30 miles west of Allentown, according to NorthJersey.com.

Charles Sciarra, an attorney for Carvounis, said his client denies the shoplifting charge and denies using his position to get out of the charge, the article said. The New Jersey State Police suspended Carvounis when they learned of the charges, Sciarra told NorthJersey.com.
