Heavy Turnout Reported at Madison Polls

'I'm happy to see so many people turn out,' Madison resident Georgeanne Limbach said.

Poll workers at the Madison Area YMCA saw 50 people an hour coming in to vote for the first few hours after the polls opened at 6 a.m., and then a steady steam of voters throughout the day, a poll worker said.

At the Madison Public Library, poll workers also described a big turnout.

Resident Georgeanne Limbach said when she pulled in to the library parking lot to vote on Tuesday afternoon, she wound up behind a car with bumper stickers expressing political views the opposite of hers. It made going to cast her vote feel more important.

"They tell me inside the turnout's incredible," she said. "I'm happy to see so many people turn out."

After she voted, Democratic Borough Council candidate Ben Wolkowitz pulled in to vote. Limbach had said he was supporting him and his running mate, former Councilwoman Astri Baillie, and has worked with both of them.
