Public Questions Water Main Work Near Whole Foods

Resolution passed to award contract for Green Ave. lot; resident suggests same contractor for water main project.

A contract for the Green Avenue reconstruction project was awarded to Cifelli and Son General Construction on Monday, and was met by a supportive suggestion from a local resident.

During Monday night’s regular meeting of the Borough Council, the resolution was passed to grant the contractual rights to the project to Cifelli and Son. Shortly before the measures were voted on in a bloc, a Madison resident affirmed the company’s professionalism.

“I have a suggestion, this company does nice work, and the water main in front of the Whole Foods is in need of work,” he said. “It needs a professional to fix it right. It needs to be dug out (about 60 feet), so I’m suggesting that the same contractor (Cifelli) should go down there and give (the borough) a price on that. He does nice work.”

Mayor Bob Conley then responded to the statement, saying, “We’re working with the state to fix that.”

Councilman Robert Catalanello thanked the gentleman for bringing up the subject, saying, “It is a problem, it requires deep milling, and it’s our responsibility, it’s our pipe.”

“It’s (definitely) not an in-house job,” said Mayor Conley.

“But it’s being addressed,” confirmed Catalanello.
