Update: Campaign Signs Go Missing in Madison

Obama and Romney supporters in the borough say they have had signs disappear.

With less than two weeks left until the Nov. 6 election, instances of theft and vandalism involving campaign signs have been reported around the U.S.—including in Madison.

Some signs supporting President Obama and Mitt Romney reportedly went missing from Madison lawns recently.

Madison resident Tracy Young told the Huffington Post she woke to find her Obama sign was gone, and later learned hers wasn't the only one. She said she replaced her sign, and did not initially call police because she did not think it would do any good.

David Arthur, a member of the Madison Board of Education, said in a comment Thursday at least two Romney signs, including his, were stolen in the Fairwoods section of Madison, and Cary Miller said in a comment his Astri Baillie sign also vanished.

Obama signs also have been vandalized in Basking Ridge, where a sign reportedly was ripped up and placed in a resident's mailbox, as well as Ohio and Wisconsin, according to the Huffington Post report.

The report says a Baristanet post shows a Montclair resident whose Romney signs were stolen ended up posting a flier saying the sign thefts would only help Romney by leading the resident to buy another sign and donate $50 to Romney's campaign.
